This communication is to inform you that we have identified a critical bug in the Tableau Forensic Universal Bridge firmware update v1.4.3, which was part of the Tableau Firmware Update v7.15 released on July 28, 2016. What is the bug?
This bug only affects the Tableau Universal Bridge (firmware v1.4.3) and can create images with corrupt data under specific configurations. One scenario where we have reproduced the issue is by creating an E01 image of a SATA SSD using Tableau Imager (TIM). If the bug is triggered, the E01 image will contain some corrupt data, and the hash of the image will not match a hash of the SATA SSD. We are working diligently to determine any additional scenarios in which this bug occurs.
What are we doing now?
Our immediate solution is to make available the prior version of the Tableau Universal Bridge firmware. This firmware update will return your hardware to a safe state. We will continue to investigate this issue and provide you with updates as information becomes available.
What Should you do now?
If you have updated your Tableau Universal Bridge to firmware v1.4.3, or if you have received a new Universal Bridge from Guidance Software or a reseller with this version installed, then we strongly recommend you download and install TFU 7.15b.
If you have used your Tableau Universal Bridge with v1.4.3 firmware to create images of media, please check your images for corrupt data.
